Introduction

On the fourth day of Navratri, devotees worship Maa Kushmanda. It is believed that when there was nothing, she created the universe with just her divine smile. Hence, she is called the Adi Srishti ki Janani – the Mother of the Universe.
Her name “Kushmanda” is formed from three words – Ku (little), Ushma (energy/heat), and Anda (cosmic egg/universe). Thus, Maa Kushmanda represents the goddess whose energy gave birth to creation itself.

The Divine Symbolism

  • Maa Kushmanda is also known as Ashtabhuja Devi, as she has eight hands holding weapons and life-giving objects.

  • Her vehicle is the lion, symbolizing courage and vitality.

  • Her radiant smile reflects positivity and the truth that light within us gives birth to new life.
